Willis had an incredible rookie campaign after making his major league debut on May 9, 2003. He was Rookie of the Month for June and was named as an All-Star injury replacement, becoming just the second Marlin to be selected to the All-Star team. The Marlins went on to win the 2003 World Series with Willis being named the NL Rookie of the year Year, finishing the season with an ERA of 3.30 and a record of 14-6.
